Case Study - University of South Florida

"With this deployment, we were able to completely automate and analyze our ridership with automated passenger counting and University ID readers, while maximizing our use of buses and drivers through mobile data terminals. User response has been very positive with an average of nearly 20,000 hits on our web site monthly since we fully deployed in April 2010, even during the slow summer months. That accounts for over 10,000 hits from mobile devices per month. It was a cost-effective solution that benefited each of our transit operating units."

-- Rick Fallin, Transit Manager, USF BullRunner

Project Overview

USF picked Syncromatics because of the tightly integrated technologies that allowed the University to deploy a comprehensive ITS solution on its heavily used transit fleet. USF's million plus annual ridership base got up to the second arrival predictions and real-time estimations of passenger load through automated passenger counting . For Rick Fallin, Transportation Manager at USF, the benefit was in the data: the university receives real-time feeds of data from automated passenger counters, mobile data terminals, magnetic card readers, and engine telemetry.
